Why convert CSV → HTML

What this conversion is actually for

If you need to publish a small table on a webpage, in a CMS, or inside an email, HTML is the right format. Renders as a real styled table you can drop straight into a page or a rich-text editor, with HTML entities in cell values properly escaped so you cannot accidentally inject markup.

A real example

You have a 30-row CSV pricing table and the marketing CMS only takes pasted HTML. Convert, copy the <table>...</table> from the output, paste into the CMS, done.

Troubleshooting

The styling does not match my site.

The output ships with minimal CSS for standalone viewing. To match your site, delete the <style> block from the head and your site's CSS will style the table.

Special characters render literally (&lt; instead of <).

That is correct escaping. If your source CSV intentionally contains HTML you want rendered, you wanted a different tool, this one treats every cell as text.

CSV, Comma-Separated Values

CSV is plain text, one row per line, fields separated by commas. The simplest possible tabular data format, which is exactly why it remains the most portable: every spreadsheet, database, programming language, and analytics tool reads CSV. Tradeoffs: no formulas, no formatting, no multiple sheets, and various edge cases around quoting fields that contain commas or newlines.

HTML is the markup language of the web, every browser displays HTML documents natively. Files contain text plus tags (<h1>, <p>, <a>, etc.) describing structure and links. Modern HTML5 also supports embedded media (audio/video) and complex semantic markup.

Whatever your browser can hold in memory. Practically, this means a few hundred MB on most computers, significantly larger than the 1-2 GB caps that server-upload converters charge for. Very large files (multi-GB) may require closing other browser tabs first.
