How it works

Three steps. No upload, no signup.

  1. 1

    Drop your file

Click the dropzone above or drag a DST from your desktop. Files of any size, there's no upload, so there's no upload limit.

  2. 2

    Convert in your browser

The conversion runs entirely in this tab using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file never touches our servers, we don't have any.

  3. 3

    Download

Get your PES the moment the conversion finishes. Convert another, or close the tab.

Files stay on your device

Your file is never uploaded. The entire conversion runs in your browser using WebAssembly. We can't see what you convert because we have no server to see it.

No file size limit

Server converters cap free users at 1-2 GB and gate larger files behind a paid plan. Since nothing uploads, our limit is whatever your browser can handle.

Free, no signup, no ads on conversions

No account required. No watermark on the output. No queue. Drop a file, get a converted file.

Why convert DST → PES (Brother)

What this conversion is actually for

Tajima DST is the embroidery industry's universal stitch format, but Brother home machines (PE-Design, Innov-is, Pacesetter) read PES natively. Converting DST → PES lets you take a design from a commercial digitizer or industrial machine and run it on a home Brother without re-digitizing.

A real example

You bought an embroidery design pack online, every file is .dst because the digitizer used Wilcom or Pulse. Your Brother SE600 needs .pes. Drop each .dst here, get a .pes back with the same stitches, color stops, and trims preserved. Load it onto a USB stick and embroider.

Troubleshooting

Colors look wrong on the machine display.

DST has no color information, it stores 'color change' commands but not the actual thread color. Our PES output assigns generic Brother thread codes; you'll see the design with placeholder colors and need to pick threads visually as you stitch. This is true of every DST→PES conversion, not specific to us.

The hoop size says it doesn't fit but the design looks small.

PES embeds a hoop size hint that your machine uses to pre-validate. We default to 4×4 (100×100mm). If your design needs a larger hoop, edit it in PE-Design or your machine's editor to set the correct hoop after conversion.

Trims/jumps are showing as visible threads on the finished embroidery.

DST sometimes records jumps without explicit trim commands. We translate them as PES trims when the jump is over 7mm (the embroidery industry standard for trim-or-not). Shorter jumps remain as floating threads, clip them by hand after stitching, or pre-process the DST in your digitizer to mark trims explicitly.

Formats involved

About DST and PES

DST, Tajima DST

DST is Tajima's industrial embroidery file format and the most universally-supported design format on commercial machines. 512-byte header followed by 3-byte stitch records. Brother, Janome, Bernina, Singer, Husqvarna Viking, all read DST as a fallback even when their native format is different.

How to open

Every commercial embroidery machine. Free viewers: Embird (paid), Embroidermodder (free), online embroidery viewers like StitchView.

PES, Brother Embroidery

PES is Brother's native embroidery format, also used by Babylock and Bernina-XJ machines. The file embeds a PEC subsection containing the actual stitch data. PES is the format most embroidery design marketplaces (Etsy, Embroidery Library) ship with by default because Brother dominates the home/hobbyist market.

How to open

Brother and Babylock home machines (PE Design software, Brother Embroidery Box). Free: Embroidermodder, online PES viewers.

FAQ

Common questions

Is this DST → PES (Brother) converter really free?

Yes. No signup, no watermark, no daily file count limit. Every conversion runs in your browser, your file never touches our servers because there are no servers.

Where does my file go when I convert it?

Nowhere. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file is never uploaded to our servers. We don't have any servers handling files, there's nothing for us to log, store, or accidentally leak.

What's the maximum file size?

Whatever your browser can hold in memory. Practically, this means a few hundred MB on most computers, significantly larger than the 1-2 GB caps that server-upload converters charge for. Very large files (multi-GB) may require closing other browser tabs first.

Why convert DST to PES?

Universal embroidery design interchange. Brother home embroidery machine designs. The most common reason to convert is compatibility, PES works in places where DST doesn't, or vice versa.

How do I open a DST file in the first place?

Every commercial embroidery machine. Free viewers: Embird (paid), Embroidermodder (free), online embroidery viewers like StitchView.

Does this work offline?

Once the page is loaded, the conversion itself runs entirely offline. The first time you use a tool, your browser downloads the conversion library (a one-time cache). If you reload while offline, the page won't load, but you can install the site as a Progressive Web App for full offline use.

Can I convert multiple files at once?

Single file at a time for now. Batch conversion is on the roadmap, for now, drop one file, download the result, then convert the next.
