Why convert JEF → DST
JEF is Janome's embroidery format; DST (Tajima) is the most widely accepted format across commercial and home machines. Convert JEF to DST so a design stitches on a machine that does not read JEF.
You bought a JEF design but your machine takes DST. Convert here and load the .dst onto your machine; stitch coordinates and color stops are preserved.
Colors look different after converting.
DST stores stitch data and color-change stops but not thread colors themselves (the format has no color table). Re-assign thread colors in your machine or software after loading.
Formats involved
JEF is Janome's embroidery format (also Memorycraft, Elna). 116-byte header with thread color list, then 2-byte stitch deltas. Used by Janome Memorycraft 9700/11000/15000 series and Elna eXpressive machines.

DST is Tajima's industrial embroidery file format and the most universally-supported design format on commercial machines. 512-byte header followed by 3-byte stitch records. Brother, Janome, Bernina, Singer, Husqvarna Viking, all read DST as a fallback even when their native format is different.

Nowhere. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file is never uploaded to our servers. We don't have any servers handling files, there's nothing for us to log, store, or accidentally leak.
Whatever your browser can hold in memory. Practically, this means a few hundred MB on most computers, significantly larger than the 1-2 GB caps that server-upload converters charge for. Very large files (multi-GB) may require closing other browser tabs first.
Janome and Elna embroidery machines. Universal embroidery design interchange. The most common reason to convert is compatibility, DST works in places where JEF doesn't, or vice versa.

Once the page is loaded, the conversion itself runs entirely offline. The first time you use a tool, your browser downloads the conversion library (a one-time cache). If you reload while offline, the page won't load, but you can install the site as a Progressive Web App for full offline use.
