Format guide
JPEG
Joint Photographic Experts Group
JPEG is the same format as JPG, different file extension, identical bytes. The .jpeg extension was the original; .jpg was adopted because early Windows versions limited extensions to 3 characters. Today the two are fully interchangeable.
How to open a JPEG file
Identical to JPG, every modern OS, browser, and image editor opens .jpeg files without conversion.
Primary use
Photographs and web imagery (interchangeable with .jpg).
